Woodruff Puppies:

Puppies should inherit their parents' excellent structure, expression, and classic temperament. Since we only use dogs who possess these qualities for breeding and who pass appropriate tests for genetic problems, buyers are more likely to take home a wonderful addition to their family from our litters rather than from a pet shop.

Getting a puppy from a responsible breeder is worth the wait. After all, the puppy you choose today will be in your life for the next 13 or so years. Write us at astoub @earthlink.net to find out if any puppies are available or send in the Questionnaire to be considered for the next litter.

Contract Highlights:

All puppies come with a guarantee of good health upon delivery to the new owner. All pet quality puppies will be sold under a contract requiring: spay/neuter by 9 months of age, a fenced area (kennel run size or yard), the puppy will live indoors, and proper veterinary care. The contract strongly recommends Puppy Class and Obedience Class.

All puppies are AKC, but pets will be Limited AKC Registration, meaning that no offspring of the puppy may be registered. All other AKC benefits and opportunities are still available.

Ownership of puppies will be non-transferrable, meaning that if for any reason a family cannot keep their puppy, it must be returned to Woodruff Shelties, who will locate an acceptable new home and then forward the sale price (minus small placement fee) to the original buyer.

Placement of Puppies:

Because Woodruff Shelties is a small hobby kennel, we will average around one, possibly two, litters per year. The number of puppies is always fewer than the number of families waiting, so there won't be a puppy available for every family who submits a questionnaire for consideration.

Placement of Puppies - How does it work?

1) Woodruff Shelties always gets first pick(s) of puppies to keep for show. These decisions might be made as late as 7 to 9 weeks of age.

2) Show homes and performance (serious Agility, Obedience, etc) homes will get second pick.

3) Pet puppies will be placed last. Specific puppies will be offered to specific families based on best temperament match. The order in which the families contacted Woodruff Shelties will be taken into consideration, but will not be the deciding factor when placing puppies.

We want to make each puppy's transition to its new home to be as smooth as possible. We're available for consultation on any matter via phone or email, and really want every family to feel they can write or call for advice.

Before the new puppy goes home with the new family, the password to the Puppy Survival Guide section of this website will be provided with enough time to prepare the family to help the puppy form lasting good habits during the first impressionable days. This section is only available only to those families that have been matched with a Woodruff puppy.
